Flooring Tips
One
of most important things you
can do to keep your carpet
looking its best is to vacuum
regularly. Vacuuming removes
the soil that can cling to
the surface of the carpet,
dulling the carpet's original
color. Using mats on both sides
of entrances will prolong your
carpet's life as well, as less
dirt is tracked into the house.
Most manufacturers suggest
having your carpets professionally
cleaned at least once a year.
General
Flooring Care
To
clean your carpet after a spill:
1. Immediately
scoop up as much of the spill
as possible. Then blot, do
not rub, area with clean
white cloths to remove excess
moisture. Use a wet / dry vac
if spill is large.
2. Apply
warm, not hot,
water to stained area and blot
with white cloths. Repeat until
no stain is evident on towels.
If stain remains on carpet, then
make a solution of 1/4 teaspoon
of dishwashing detergent to one
cup of water. (It's recommended
to use a clear detergent, as
cloudy or creamy detergents may
leave a sticky residue.)
3. Absorb
any remaining moisture with layers
of white paper towels weighted
with a non-staining glass or
ceramic object. When carpet is
dry, vacuum or brush the pile
to restore texture.
Reappearing
Stains: After drying, if the
stain reappears, it may be because
some of the stain remained deep
in the pile and wicked up to
the surface. If so, repeat step
2.
